THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF ONLINE EDUCATION
Education has been transformed
significantly over the past century, evolving to meet the needs of an
ever-changing society. It equips us with information in various fields and our
specialization in particular. This article will explore solely, Online
Education; it's advantages and
disadvantages. Online Education is defined as a teaching and learning process
between teachers and pupils that involves various digital mediums, such as
'Whatsapp', 'Zoom', and 'Google Classroom'. In addition, online learning does
not refer to direct learning alone. Any assignments or activities, provided by
the teacher online, are considered part of online learning.
Online Education (e-learning) describes any form of pedagogy
delivered using digital technology. Such methods incorporate visual graphics,
text, animations, videos and audio. In addition, online pedagogy can also
facilitate group learning, and the assistance of instructors within specific
fields. By interacting online, instructors and educators remain connected with
their students notwithstanding being in different locations. Online Education
confers a lot advantageous attributes to the learners.
It is expedient to note that
Online Education allows students to uncover new information by exploring
digital libraries and websites. As further technologies are introduced to the
field of education, distance learning facilitates the global dissemination of
information and knowledge. Students can choose the time they spend, the content
they learn, and the direction of their learning. Students also have the
opportunity to revisit challenging topics until they feel confident in their
understanding.
Furthermore, Online Education eliminates the aggravated cost of student's
expenditure. Transportation is a major setback when it comes to Education,
students are expected to attend lectures from their different locations thereby
spending a lot of money . An instance can be taken from Nigeria where the
expense for fuel has skyrocketed. This
has adversely affected transport
companies as they have to increase their price to this making transporting a
luxurious venture. With E- learning the bane of transport expense has been
broken . Students can learn at the comfort of their homes with ease .
Unfortunately , Online Education
also has impediments. One of which is most prevalent is Technical Issues, such
as ; internet connectivity issues or
computer glitches, can disrupt the learning process, leading to missed assignments
or lectures. Frequent power outage is also in this category. Using Nigeria as a
case study one is not sure of the light consistency as it can fluctuate from
time to time. Charging of the equipment for learning becomes more difficult as
learners are forced.
In addition to the afore mentioned
disadvantage, flaw of Online Education is limited hands-On Learning. Certain
specializations, like lab sciences or hands-on trades, are challenging to
replicate effectively online. Practical skills may be inadequately addressed in
a virtual environment. In essence, the knowledge gotten from the courses are
more of theories which makes the learning incomplete.
In conclusion, online education
has come a long way and will continue to shape the future of learning. While it
offers unparalleled flexibility and accessibility, it also presents challenges
that educators and institutions must address. As technology and pedagogical
strategies advance, the potential for online education to become an even more
effective and widely embraced form of learning remains significant. The
usefulness of Online Education cannot be overemphasized. Measure should be
taken for a more suitable Online learning space as the impact of this mode of
education outweighs others.

However, the writer’s assumption that practical classes may not be adequately addressed in an online class presents itself as a fundamental error—as it undermines the capacity of artificial machines. Put differently, the argument of how to do practical classes online has been resolved with the invention of virtual labs, video demonstrations and many others.

This is a very good writeup. Online classes are a great way of learning, but also alongside physical classes. Yes, technology has made easier for visual practical classes, but there is still the need for physical interaction between the students and the teachers.

One point that should be clarified however, is in the practicality of learning.
