NYSC OSUN STATE DISCHARGES 1019 CORPS MEMBERS Extend Service of 7

The National Youth Service Corps, Osun State has successfully discharged 1019 corps members who have successfully completed the 2021 Batch A stream 1 one year mandatory service to the nation.

The ceremonial passing-out ceremony which marked the end of the service year for the corps members took place at the Osogbo City Stadium, Osogbo, on Thursday.

Various dignitaries were physically present at the event, with the State Governor ably represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Olayemi Lawal Azeez.

In delivering the farewell address on behalf of the Governor, Honourable Lawal thanked the corps members for their heartfelt service in the areas of education, health care delivery, agriculture and rural development which were felt in all areas of the state.

He urged them not to stop at the Scheme's level but to carry on the trend of diligence, patriotism and dedication everywhere they find themselves. He charged to ensure all they have learned during the service year is duly utilised for their own good and the betterment of the society.

"Ensure the world around you feels the impact of your presence and don't be afraid to showcase your innate talents", he added.

He noted that the Government will continually work with the Scheme to see to the implementation of the NYSC Trust Fund which would cater for the welfare of corps members and go along way in providing a very conducive environment for them during the service year.

Earlier, the NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mrs Ngozi Winifred Shokpeka, in her address congratulated the corps members for a successful service year and encouraged them to continually inculcate the attitude of discipline and self-reliance.

She urged them to maintain a good image of themselves and not get involved in societal vices and illegitimate means of making income. She reminded them of the fact that they are a brand and should therefore endeavour to live up to the good name they had earned during the service year. She implored them not to give in to negative pressures and the lure of the get-rich-quick syndrome.

Shokpeka charged the Corps members to hold on and never give up on their dreams that had brought them thus far.

She wished them well as they venture into the next phase of life; "remember to leave a mark and contribute your own quota to nation building more than ever before", she concluded.

A total of 1019 corps members were issued the certificate of national service while 7 had their service year extended while 8 absconded.

The event also featured a  sample presentation of certificate to a corps member and a recommendation letter to the corps liaison officer of Osogbo local government area for outstanding performance during the service year.
