ARE YOUR FRIENDS REALLY YOUR FRIENDS?

For an in depth discussion of this discourse, it is pertinent to examine the operative concept. The operative concept here is Friend.

By way of definition; a friend according to English Dictionaryis a person other than a family member, spouse or lover whose company one enjoys and towards whom one feels affection.

Anytime the concept of friend or friendship is discussed, the phrase ‘your friend determines your end’ is something to hold handy.

There are diverse reasons why people become friends and also there are various events that lead to people becoming friends. More than often, some people either grew up in the same environment together, attended the same school, belong to the same religious organisation, works at the same organisation or are in the same or similar profession. However, as these might be factors that might bring about friendship, they are not enough reason to be (close) friend with people.

Being friend with someone should be an avenue to help each other grow and be of help to each other. Things like selfishness, jealousy shouldn’t be what stimulate friendship.

So, before becoming friend with someone, it is expedient to check for values compatibility. The most important value being selflessness.
