Sex Before Marriage, A killer Or a Pathway to lasting Marriage

Sex before marriage, a very controversial topic in an era where purity culture, and conservatism is experiencing a decay. Purity culture, the subculture that peaked in the 90s. Young girls pledging to abstain from sex until marriage. It is impossible to discuss sex before marriage, without acknowledging the effect of religion on this norm.

Sexual purity is one practice almost every religion agree on. Religion was a tool for power back then, so therefore sexual purity was a strong norm. As a young Christian girl who grew up in a modest catholic family, Ist Corinthians 6:13 was a scripture I was immersed into. "Every other sin a man sins is outside his body, but sexual immorality, defiles the human body".

It is safe to conclude that individuals abstained from sex due to fear, fear based on their religious beliefs. Liberated generation see nothing wrong in having sex before marriage.

It is normal for two adults who are attracted to each other, to have sexual feelings. It is a response to their hormones.

Scientifically when two adults engage in sex, they form intense bonds mentally, emotionally, and physically, especially when repeated occasionally. Sexual activities between adults releases chemicals in their brains. For women it is the oxytocin hormones, and for men the vasopressin. These hormones allows both men, and women to bond well.

These hormones create a desire for commitment, and arouses loyalty. Endorphins a hormone released during sexual activity is highly addictive. Couples would like to engage in sex occasionally as this hormone ensures happiness.

Lack of proper dating before engaging in sexual activity is now a norm. After discussing the adverse effect of constant sex between two adults, do you think it is wise for individuals to rush into sex? During courtship or Relationship, two individuals set out on a quest to know each other better. Proper partner selection is hard when an individual receives strong, and immediate chemical, emotional, and relational benefits of sexual intercourse.

The mirage butterfly feeling will over cloud a person’s judgement leading to a catastrophic aftermath.

Couples who bond emotionally at first tend to build stronger relationships than those who bonded sexually at the beginning of their relationship.

Statistics shows that couples who waited until their marriage to have sex, have lasting, and happy marriages. These couples have higher relationship satisfaction, better communication patterns, less consideration of divorce, and good sex life.

The question, Is sex before marriage a killer or a Pathway to lasting marriage? To answer this question I’ll conclude. Sex at the beginning of a relationship makes it difficult for better partner selection.

Sex in a long term relationship won’t be a bad idea, since both partners understands each other, and are compatible. Long term relationship also doesn’t guarantee marriage. Therefore an individual who doesn’t get married after such long term relationship, and who also engaged in sex, must have experienced the endorphins hormones. In his next relationship, this individual might not be patient to wait as long as he did in his previous. Those happy hormones will emerge, and the new partner must help satisfy his groaning desire. Starting a relationship this way, might lead to a catastrophe. So sex before marriage is most likely a killer than a pathway to a lasting marriage.
