NO IS NO; RAPE IN THE 21ST CENTURY

The other day, I overheard two people having a conversation and I couldn’t help but lean in to listen

Person 1:

I would never understand some things, and one of them is how a woman or man would rape another WOMAN or MAN.

Person 2:

This is a completely silly statement. Don’t ever say this outside. Why? Because, there is NO justified reason for rape, people just rape!

Usually when people are asked about this highly sensitive topic of rape, they either Person 1 or Person 2.

This matter is a delicate one and I have no interest in differentiating which is right or wrong. 

There are two kinds of people in the world; those who have being raped and those who haven’t. And these two sets of people will always have a different opinion about this mater.

If you’re in the former. I pray you find peace from your hurt. If you’re in the latter, I pray you never become one.

In my opinion, both statements from the two persons is right and one doesn’t have to disprove or counter the other.

I’ll show you why.

Rape is a dirty crime, one the dirtiest if you ask me and its just abominable and should be prosecuted as much as it is being frowned at. Rape is a violation against the fundamental human rights. That’s high.

One thing baffles me; Is there any reason that justifies rape, can something trigger it? Or there is never going to be reason enough for rape regardless of the context. This is always the question that many seek answers to just to find a way to curb this rapidly growing menace.

Statistics show that 1 in 4 Nigerian girls are sexually assaulted before 18. Who knows what the stats would be in 5 years to come? This is really something to worry about.

Are morals the issue? Or people are no longer taught what integrity is? Could the case be that sex is now so cheap that some people have decided to get it any way possible and don’t mind violating another human for it?

I may not know many things, but one thing I know; In one or all of the above, you’ll find the answer.

I will leave you to your thoughts for I know you’ll have one even as you read through this. But here is mine; RAPE IS A CRIME, NO IS NO!
