PARENTS THE BUILDER OF TOMORROW FUTURE LEADERS
It is a common believe, when a child behaves in an unjust manner he or she is judged to have been badly brought-up by their Parents.
Parenting is the process of raising children and providing them with protection and care in order to ensure their healthy development into adulthood.
As children develop from infants to teens to adults they go through a series of developmental stages that are important to all aspects of their personhood including Physical, Intellectual, Emotional and Social.
The proper role of the parent is to provide encouragement, support and access to activities that enable the child to master key development tasks. A parent is thier child's first teacher and should remain thier best teacher throughout life. Functioning as a coach, the parent exposes a child to age-appropriate challenges to encourage development as-well-as to experiences that allow the child to explore on their own and learn from interacting with their environment.
Psychology is of the opinion that from birth children are goal directed to experiment and learn from each experience. Hence, making them vulnerable to what they experience from their parents. Also, Child Development experts have taken the concept of 'Scaffolding' from the building trades. Just as scaffolding is put up to support the structure of the building as it is being built and gradually taken down as the building is able to stand on its own, a parent will need to provide the necessary support for a child to allow them to safely and productively explore and learn from their environment.
As the child matures and develops mastery the 'Scaffolding' is removed or changed to allow the child to become more independent and responsible for their decisions. If the child is not quite ready, the support is reinstated and then gradually withdrawn once again.
However, it is important to note that the role of proper parenting in relation to the shaping of future leaders can never be over emphasized. In the evergreen words of Lucky Philip Dube in his song tittled 'Born to Suffer'.
Dube made a very significant impact on proper parenting and the effects of ill-parenting in the lives of the children and the society at large. His words is as thus;
"If they grow-up without their parents, whose gonna tell them this is right?If they grow-up without their parent, whose gonna tell them this is wrong?Without their parents, Children Suffering".
Following from the above disposition, it would not be totally out of place to conclude that proper parenting is the cradle of building reputable leaders.
