"ORIENTATION COURSE PREPARES YOU TO FACE THE CHALLENGES OF THE OUTSIDE WORLD"- ATTAH
The Director, NYSC Southwest Area Office, Mr Emmanuel Danjuma Attah has told the 2020 Batch A and Batch B Stream 1B corps members that orientation course prepares them to face the challenges of the outside world.
He stated this while addressing the corps members at the multipurpose hall of the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede, On Friday.
According to Mr Attah, Orientation Course is among the four cardinal programmes of the NYSC and one of the most important programmes in the scheme, stressing that it should be taken seriously in order to be fit enough to face the challenges that the outside world might present to them.
Mr Attah further enjoined the corps members to accept their postings in good faith and avoid inducing their rejection or paying officers to help change their places of primary assignment because it is a criminal offense with heavy consequences.
Subsequently, he implored the corps members to take advantage of the skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development programme as it is the shortest route to success in this generation where white collar job is no longer feasible.
"Pick a skill, learn in camp and specialize later because you will never regret learning a skill tomorrow.
"Heaven helps those who help themselves, and the skill you learn today will make you better tomorrow", he added.
In addition, he emphasized on the need for the corps members to be careful of what they post on social media , as this may implicate them or cause them pain in future.
" Social media is one of the greatest problem in Nigeria today.
"Desist from posting fake news or fake information because this may destroy someone's image or reputation or even implicate you", he said
He further admonished them to avoid defacing the NYSC uniform and always ensure that they dress properly anywhere they are.
"Show respect to NYSC uniform because the uniform is your strength.
"Our uniform is important, the way you dress is the way you will be addressed", he added.
Also, he told the members to avoid traveling without permission, adding that if the need to travel arises, they should not fail to take permission following the right channel of communication before traveling to anywhere.
In conclusion, He told the corps members not to run away from challenges and avoid underrating any job because challenges makes one stronger and better, adding that their strength will give them the confidence to explore the world, improve and develop the society and leave a legacy that the host community and future generation will never forget.
Earlier, The NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mr Ayodele Adegoke emphasized on the safety of the corps members so far, through the positive partnership with NCDC who have ensured that the COVID-19 preventive protocols are adhered to in order to keep everyone on camp safe.
Speaking further, he briefed the Area Director, that the corps members are disciplined and committed to service while appreciating the Director General of NYSC Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim for working tirelessly towards ensuring the reopening of orientation camps after the lockdown.
