The Federal Road Safety Corps is set to strengthen its collaboration with the National Youth Service Corps State of Osun in sensitising corps members towards curbing incessant travellings and late night journeys during the festive period.
It also said that the management would not relent in its efforts in ensuring corps members are duly informed of safety regulations while in transit.
The FRSC Sector Commander, Mr Oke Peters, disclosed this on Tuesday when the NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mr Ayodele Adegoke paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Osogbo.
While commending Adegoke and the NYSC Management on their outstanding efforts in ensuring that the welfare of corps members is of topmost priority, Oke said there is a need for corps members to create a forum where they advise themselves on the dangers associated with night travelings and unauthorized journeys.
The Sector Commander who relayed how majority of corps members from other regions of the country deployed to the Southwest immediately embark on long journeys just after their passing out parade, appealed to the State Coordinator to help discourage the act.
Speaking further, he urged the Public Relations Officer, Mrs Ogungbemi Agnes to ensure that she is accompanied by representatives of the FRSC Vanguard Community Development Service to media houses in other to create awareness and help sensitize other corps members.
"Episodes should be created for corps members in other to advise them against unauthorized travelings and night journeys", Oke said
Earlier, Adegoke appreciated the management for their reception and stated how the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim gave the directive to all State Coordinators to liaise with the FRSC towards reducing carnage associated with corps members on the highways.
He solicited for an advocacy visit to the Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede, in order to sensitize the 2019 Batch C Stream II corps members deployed to the state on safety regulations.
The State Coordinator appealed to the FRSC to double their efforts especially during this yuletide season, according to him, 'we want the FRSC to assist the scheme, especially during this festive period, in sensitising corps members', 'the death of any corps member as a result of road accident is always a huge loss to the scheme' Adegoke said.
