DG NYSC READS RIOT ACT TO CORPS PRODUCING INSTITUTIONS
The Director General NYSC Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim has warned that the Scheme will no longer tolerate the mobilization of unqualified Nigerians by Corps producing institutions.
He stated this in a keynote address at Legbo Kutigi International Conference Centre, Mina, Niger state at the 2019 Batch 'C' Premolilization Workshop today.
The NYSC helmsman who decried the ugly trend, whereby some Corps producing institutions have over the years bastardized the mobilization process by presenting youths who are not qualified for mobilization into the nation's one year mandatory national service said that henceforth stiff penalties await any institution of higher learning that engages in the unholy practice.
Giving a vivid description of the situation, General Shuaibu said that some of the institutions are fond of uploading names of graduates of sandwich and/or part-time programmes in the list of people mobilized for service.
He also revealed that some institutions present names of people who are above the age of 30, which is the maximum age for mobilization.
He equally said that the most worrisome is the presentation of youths who didn't go through the four walls of the classroom at all.
Speaking further during the business session of the Workshop, the 18th Chief Executive Officer of NYSC said some institutions have been in the recent passed found guilty of selling certificates for sums ranging between two hundred and five hundred thousand naira, and forwarding names of the buyers among their authentic graduates.
He reiterated that such ungodly conducts must cease with immediate effect, else any institution found culpable will be blacklisted, as such acts contravene the NYSC Act.
Declaring the event open, the Executive Governor of Niger state, represented by his deputy, Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed Ketso thanked NYSC Management for giving the state the right to host the crucial workshop.
He also appreciated the siting of the North Central office of the Scheme in the state, and promised that everything will be provided for the smooth re-take off of the Area office.
Earlier in her remark, the Deputy Director in charge of Corps Mobilization Department, Mrs. Victoria Ango said the Workshop was not just a formality, but an Avenue for NYSC management, Deployment and Relocation Officers from all states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, as well as students affairs officers of Corps producing institutions to rob minds, to ensure a seamless and credible mobilization.
